Physiotherapy
Restore Physio provides excellence in Physiotherapy care that is research/evidence based and allows you to recover from injury and get the results you want.
-
At your initial consultation we conduct a thorough assessment that includes getting information regarding your injury, history of previous injuries and medical conditions/general wellbeing. We then carry out a physical assessment. This allows us to formulate a diagnosis and create a treatment plan specific to your needs and recovery.
-
Treatment may include hands on manual therapy, exercise-based rehabilitation, acupuncture, taping/strapping for example.
We have extensive referral networks and work closely with local GP’s, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Sports Physicians, Radiology clinics, Psychologists, Dieticians, Podiatrists, Occupational Therapists and anyone else who may be appropriate to have involved in your recovery.
We see clients regularly at local gyms/facilities where required – your Physio will guide you on this if they think this is the best management for your condition.
Should our assessment indicate that you require referral for Specialist opinion, or x-ray or ultrasound for example, our team are happy and able to sort this for you.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR PRIOR TO COMING TO PHYSIO, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO SELF REFER AND WE WILL ADVISE YOU SHOULD YOU REQUIRE A MEDICAL OPINION.
We provide ACC and private care.
Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy
‘Musculoskeletal’ refers to anything related to muscle, tendon, ligament, bone or joints in the body. This can be extended to include nerves. We treat any condition that may be related to injury or pain in one or more of these structures.
Musculoskeletal injury/pain/dysfunction can occur for a multitude of reasons and includes (but is not limited to):
an accident or injury such as twisting your ankle or lifting something heavy
overuse/repetitive strain/training related injury
sports injury
back pain
a fall
workplace injury
Arthritis Care
Symptomatic arthritis is the leading cause of musculoskeletal disability, affecting 700,000 Kiwis.
-
Joint pain
Stiffness
Swelling/inflammation
Muscle weakness
-
These symptoms can then lead to:
Difficulty moving your joints
Difficulty with or reduced mobility
Reduced overall fitness
Reduced ability to do your normal day to day function and things you enjoy
-
Physios often hear people say they’ve been told there’s nothing that can be done for arthritis and they’ve just got to live with it. But!! There is hope!
Whilst there is not a specific cure, it is possible to manage arthritis effectively and be able to live a full and meaningful life. Physiotherapy is a key service that can help you learn more about how to manage arthritis effectively.
Here at Restore, we can assess and treat your condition on a one to one basis and we have also developed and offer an exercise based rehabilitation class for people who have arthritis.
Exercise has been shown to improve overall function, mobility, strength and fitness in those with arthritis. Exercise has also been shown to help with pain relief in symptomatic arthritis.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting fine needles in specific points of the body to relieve pain, assist with healing and general well-being.
Victoria completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Western Acupuncture at AUT in 2014 and has used acupuncture as a successful adjunct to compliment the care she provides her clients, where appropriate.
If you think you’d like to give acupuncture a go, be sure to ask her if it would be appropriate in your treatment plan. Conversely, if you hate the thought of needles (even though they’re only tiny!) be sure also to let her know if she mentions acupuncture to you.
Surgical Rehabilitation
Pre-surgery rehabilitation allows you to improve your strength and capacity in order to maximise your potential for recovery post-surgery.
Common surgeries we treat include (but not limited to):
Knee surgery – ACL/ligament reconstruction, knee arthroscopy for meniscal/cartilage injury
Ankle surgery – ligament reconstruction, achilles tendon repair
Shoulder surgery – rotator cuff repair, stabilisation for dislocation
Joint replacement – hip, knee, shoulder
Spinal surgery
Surgery for fractures/broken bones
Post-trauma Rehabilitation
Traumatic physical injury can occur after a serious incident or event such as a car accident, fall, crush injury, assault, or burn, for example. There may be one or multiple injuries as a result, including wounds, broken bones, internal injuries, or concussion, for example.
Physiotherapy is a key part of the recovery process from such an injury or event, in order for the person involved to make the best recovery they possibly can. For severe traumatic events this process often starts in hospital and is then continued in the community once the person is discharged home.
Severe physical injury may also coincide with psychological trauma/difficulty due to shock and potentially life changing effects.
Our Physio, Victoria, has extensive experience working with people with traumatic injuries both during the early phases post injury in hospital, right through to treatment and rehabilitation in private practice until discharge from care.
In these cases, Victoria works closely with other Health Professionals who may be involved, such as Orthopaedic or Plastic Surgeons, Occupational Therapists, GPs, and Psychologists.
Persistent pain conditions
Pain is a complex phenomenon that occurs for a multitude of reasons. It can often start with a physical injury but continue beyond when that injury has healed.
Pain results when your body is trying to protect you or a body part and it is a complex interaction of biological (your body), psychological (your mind, thoughts and beliefs) and social (your environment and social interactions) factors.
Pain is ALWAYS real and you should never be told otherwise. But, pain is not equal to tissue damage or extent of injury.
Think phantom limb pain – 70% of people who have a limb removed, still feel pain in that limb despite its ‘absence’.
Other conditions such as arthritis can contribute to someone feeling chronic or persistent pain.
-
Have you had pain that is going on longer than 3 months? Have you still got pain despite being told your injury has healed?

There have been significant advances in our understanding of the science behind pain.

Pilates
Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on improving movement, flexibility, strength, balance and posture. At Restore Physio & Pilates, we offer a wide range of Pilates classes including Physio and instructor-led, on both the mat and reformer.
Whether it’s recovery from injury or to improve your strength and fitness, we have a class for you.
-
Classes led by Physiotherapists allow those with injuries, who are pregnant or have other conditions to exercise in a safe and effective manner that is specific to your needs.
Pilates is an extremely beneficial method in rehabilitation and recovery from injury, as well as in maintaining joint mobility, muscle strength and overall wellbeing.
-
Since the growth in popularity of the reformer, mat Pilates can often be overshadowed and undervalued! However, it is still one of the best forms of mat based exercise.
Mat Pilates at Restore enables you to gain much better movement and body awareness, learn the basic Pilates principles and use your body weight to improve strength, balance and flexibility.
If you have never done Pilates before, the mat is a great place to start before you explore other options!
-
The reformer is a fabulous piece of equipment that uses springs and pulleys to provide resistance. Resistance is needed in order to get strong!
Our reformer classes will enable you to get stronger, more flexible and have a full body workout.

Booking into a class
Bookings are required for all classes. To book please contact reception 09 945 0399 or email admin@restorephysioandpilates.co.nz
Watch this space for our online booking system coming in the near future!
Our policy is that all participants have a minimum of one 1-1 session with one of our Physios/instructors before coming into a class.
-
This is so that we can get a better understanding of you, your goals, and any medical conditions or injuries you may have. This is also to ensure you have a good grasp and understanding of the Pilates principles and we can then advise you on which class/classes would be appropriate for you. We do not want to put an advanced person into a beginner class and vice versa!
Please phone if you have further questions or would like further information – call 09 945 0399

When we exercise and move we are often not aware of how we are moving; and we are not always moving well – this often contributes to aches, pains and injury. Keeping our class numbers so small allows our instructors to give you more attention and instruction and this in turn means you will gain more from each session.
